Queen rock legend faces 'saddest day of his life' after heart attack tragedy
Queen legend, Sir Brian May, is facing one of the ‘saddest days of his life’ after his ‘dear friend’ of 30 years died.
The Queen star shared a tribute to his long-term friend after admitting how devastated he is. He hailed his driver, Phil Webb, as the “most decent man” he’s ever met as the music star explained the heartbreaking death.
Queen star Brian May pays tribute
Queen’s Brian May posted on Instagram on Thursday after hearing about the tragedy.
The celebrity wrote: “This is one of the saddest days of my life. Last night we lost Phil Webb to a heart attack.
“Phil, my dedicated driver for over 30 years was my family’s dearest friend and protector and the kindest and most decent man I have ever had the pleasure to meet.”
The 76-year-old also shared photos of Phil, who had worked with him for more than 30 years.
Brian added: “We are all devastated and join with Phil’s wife and son in grieving for the last man on earth to deserve this much too early passing away.
“Bless you dear Phil – we all love you. We’re proud of the life you led, and forever grateful for everything you gave us – more than any words could ever describe. Bri.”
Long-term friend was by his side at Brian May’s knighthood

Phil was with Sir Brian when he received a knighthood at Buckingham Palace. The music star was celebrated for his services to music and charity. The guitarist, who is also an astrophysicist, is a passionate animal welfare advocate.
He was part of the original line-up of the band, alongside Queen’s frontman Freddie Mercury, John Deacon and Roger Taylor. The group stormed the charts in the 1980s and toured the world.
Brian’s impressive riffs include Don’t Stop Me Now, I Want It All, and The Millionaire Waltz.
He also revisited the palace to perform during Queen Elizabeth II‘s Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2002. He gave an impeccable guitar version of the British national anthem, God Save The Queen.
Brian returned with Queen and Adam Lambert for the Platinum Jubilee last year.
